I am very surprised by the poor reviews for this vacuum. I love it! I have 3 large long-haired dogs and I vacuum every other day. This vacuum does a terrific job of picking up dog hair and everything else. When I first purchased it, I had just vacuumed with a Kenmore powered-agitator canister vacuum, and i was totally amazed at the amount of additional dirt and hair that the other vacuum missed, and THIS one picked up.



Yes, the dirt cup is messier to deal with than bags, however, I would much rather do this than pay the price for expensive bags. And with 3 dogs, I was going thru a LOT of bags. I have just learned to empty the dirt cup outside or in the garage instead of in my kitchen as you will want to tap the filter it to dislodge fine dirt.



I have had the vacuum for about 9 months before I replaced the self-propelled belt. The belt only cost me $2.50 and was very easy to change. I have physical disabilities and LOVE the self-propelled feature. I would not be able to vacuum without it.

Like one of the previous reviewers, I have never written a review before. I absolutely HATE this vacuum. It clogs all too often and does not have the suction my old hoover had. When dumping the canister out, the dust you have collected spills everywhere. So much for those who have allergies. Then I spent some time cleaning out the canister (I like the bag method better). My old hoover was 14 years old an sucked a lot better than this one!!! We donated the old one. Should have donated this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My self propelled Hoover finally died after nearly 10 years. It never did my wrong - Great suction, attatchments were awesome, and the self propelling was the best part. When it started acting up, I didn't even think twice about the fact that I would be purchasing the exact same vacuum, just a newer model that was bagless. So I did.



It cleaned well, the day I took it out of the box. I was excited about the bagless feature and being able to empty it after each use, being that I have two very hairy dogs. I did notice right away that the self propelling didn't work (almost at all) going backwards. I was in denial that anything could be wrong with a newer version of a vcuuum I loved so dearly for so many years. So I put it in the closet, and waited for another day.



To my surprise, when I took it out it pretty much didn't work at all. I wish I were exaggerating here. When I turned the power on, the motor turned on, but the brushes refused to turn unless it was on the highest carpet setting. It barely picked up anything on this setting, as I do not have long carpet. If I put it to medium or low, the brushes refused to spin and the vacuum started to smell of burning rubber. Did I mention the self propelling didn't work?



I exchanged it for a new one, and am sorry to report the second one did the EXACT SAME THING.



I am disappointed so say the least. I will be returning this one for good. However I still have hope in Hoover and will be researching other models (and reading reviews before I buy!)in hopes of finding one that ran as wonderful as my last Hoover.

Do yourself a favor and do NOT purchase this product. The Hoover brand has been going down hill for a while now. I remember my mother had a Hoover that lasted forever and never needed repair. Not true anymore. The last time my hoover went bad, I vowed never to purchase another one, yet stupidly decided to give them one last chance. BIG mistake. This vacuum worked extremely well the first few times I used it. After that, never again. The belts on this on have not worn out (like my old wind tunnel did constantly) but it has no suction at all, even after I have emptied and clean the cannister, cleaned and dried the filter and taken the entire hose off (keep a phillips screwdriver handy--you'll need it alot!) and unclogged every possible hose and crevice in the machine. It still will not have any suction. The accessories that are stored in the machine will fall off at random, including the tubes, and the little door on top that stores the smaller attachments opens at random as well, causing the accesories to fall out. The worst thing is I paid a hefty price for this vacuum. Well, you had your last chance Hoover, I am off to purchase a Dyson.

I am shocked at these reviews. I have owned this same vacuum for 4 or 5 years and have never had a problem. The suction is great and all the attachments work great. Yes you have to wash the filter every few months but it is picking up alot of dirt and gets clogged. I have never had to replace a belt. I do have to cut some hair out of the brushes about once a year but with long hair and two dogs I would have to do that with any vacuum. It is great and just hope they keep making this model.

OK, I have had a Floormate for several years. It has been through a set of twins and 3 dogs. I wanted "very clean" with minimal effort. I have experimented alot, but the best system I have found is to vacuum with an irobot roomba (get a refurb for about a hundred, then get a replacement battery off e bay once a year for half of what irobot charges.) I have tile and Pergo floors.



After the floor is swept (on tile or linoleum only), spray water directly onto the floor from your kitchen sprayer. Walk carefully...I do this barefoot. Scrub the entire area. Dried bananna will soften and get scrubbed, then sucked up by the Floormate. The down side is that you have to be a good aim with the kitchen sprayer, and spread the water around with either the floor mate or a scrub brush (I have one that screws onto a pole that I got from Home Despot. I don't have to stoop to scrub, and it's faster than the scrubbing action of the Floormate.)The alternative is to go around with a big spray bottle with a good strong spray stream, and then suck it up. The trigger on the Floormate is tedious. My fingers got tired. I value the Floormate only for the suction/squeege aspect.



Over and over again, I go back to the Hoover Floormate because it sucks up the dirt, hair and crud. My method ensures that the dried on stuff will come up. Everything else (except the Scooba) just spreads the stuff. I loved the Scooba, but it is very touchy and can require alot of coddling to get it to function for more than a year (the iRobot warranty is excellent....for a year.)



The Floor mate still takes time to do. If you want hands-off, use a Scooba several times a week. I have found nothing that will get all the water out of grout lines on a tile floor, but the Floormate is better than a mop or a swiffer. A swiffer-type mop will not get the dried-on stuff. A steam mop is like using a hot swiffer without requiring cleaning solutions....it takes several passes and alot of hard pushing. Floor mate is easy to push and although the cup fills quickly, I find it worth it. I do not use the solution cup. I squirt some cleaning solution directly onto the floor before and during scrubbing, on the especially tough spots. Using less is better, since too much solution makes me feel like I must go over the floor with a second pass to rinse.

I love this machine! It's as loud (if not louder) than a vacuum cleaner and takes longer to clean the floor but the floors are cleaner and it takes no effort whatsoever. You can throw away your broom and dustpan and mop and bucket (or swiffer) and get cleaner floors.

I bought this hoping to keep my wood floors clean, but it's not "hard-core" enough for me with a messy husband, son, and several dogs. I ended up scrubbing my floor by hand and just using the suction to get the extra water up.



I feel this isn't strong enough to do a thorough scrubbing, and the cleaning solution chamber empties too quickly. It may have been a better machine if I could turn the suction off to scrub, then turn it on to vacuum the water up, but as the brushes and vacuum are on together, it isn't worth it. I work harder using it.

This machine is OK. I bought a floormate many years ago and I prefer my older model (I'm not sure of the exact model, but looks like the 3044).



This machine cleans pretty well, but doesn't pick up the cleaning solution half as well as the 3044. Not a big deal, but I do need time to let the floor dry. Also, I couldn't consider using this machine for a spill cleanup.



I'd highly recommend spending a few more dollars and going for the other models with the spinscrub.



I also vacuum my house with my hoover vacuum prior to using this machine, so I never had any misconceptions on the vacuum/clean feature of the cleaner.

 "Can I give minus five stars? ... EPIC FAIL!" 2009-10-24

After six months, the machine is honestly on its last legs or wheels ... or whatever.



I have to say that when I first bought this vacuum, I thought it was the cat's meow, but as all Kirby salesmen might say, "store bought vacuums just don't last." This is the first time I've ever had a vacuum that fell apart so quickly.



First the evacuation lid that is clipped to the bottom is connected to the canister by a clear plastic hinge that is supposed to hold up after a few years worth of use, but even after a few months, I noticed a few cracks which leading to dust leaks on the bottom and dust build-up in several very visible areas.



The lid isn't something that can be fixed or repaired either. Emptying the vac by using using the button release method is the only way and material quickly builds up in the chamber leading it to be emptied almost after every room if you want to save on the longevity of your machine. Also the canister breaks down into five parts, all which need to be cleaned in the sink every few weeks. Sadly, this is a case where a bag would've been much more convenient.



Also the rubber seal around where the lid closes on the canister is also deteriorating after a few months of use. I have a 1998 Izusu Amigo out back with 200,000 miles on it that has serpentine belt on it that probably five years older or more and looks brand new. This thing looks like it came from a landfill of the previous century.



Lastly the connected hose has a tendency of releasing from the upright connection all on its own due to a flimsy method of connecting.



This is probably the biggest waste of cash I spent this year. Maybe the government should let this company fail if they ever ask for a bailout.

Do not buy this vacuum. It is a complete dog. I have spent more time unclogging the rotating filter and then cleaning up the resulting mess than I have in using the sweeper. There is no way to keep dirt and debris from getting into the rotating filter, thus clogging it and preventing it from moving. The separate head that can be used for stairs, etc. also clogs easily and the dirt, pet hair, etc. has to be manually removed from that as well. I have owned several Hoover products in the past and have been pleased with all of them. I wrote Hoover an email about this product and explained that the design is obviously faulty, and they simply referred me to my local service representative. I got the distinct feeling that they did not even read the explanation of my problem and my disapppointment in this product. I wish we would have read the online reviews before we made this purchase, as they are quite accurate. We bought a Bissell Healthy Home sweeper a few months ago and have been very pleased with it. None of the same problems that we have encountered with the Hoover. I would give this product ZERO stars.

Like the majority of the reviews, this vacuum makes a big mess to empty. We used it two times and during the second time, the hose attachment stopped working and it started shooting dust, carpet powdwer, etc. out the front of the machine. We had dust and powder strewn all over the living room. So, we too had to get our old vacuum out to clean up the mess of the new vacuum. We are past the 30 day return time, so we can even return the stupid thing.

I have loved Hoover Vaccums and had them all my adult life ..one older windtunnel with Z bags that is 8 years old and still works great for my daughter...But this Bagless 2007 model Windtunnel 2 is TERRIBLE! It 's motor stopped working and was replaced in 2008 and now AGAIN the motor died in 2009! They don't make them like they used to! It ruins my faith in Hoover vacuums. DON'T BUY THE BAGLESS HOOVER VACUUM!!! Granted the model is U8361-900 purchased in 3-07 but it is NOT worth the $340 I paid. I never write reviews..this is my first ever but I feel very strongly about alerting others to NOT BUY this bagless model!
