Hoover "Z" 700 Bagless Upright vacuum is the world's first Sport Utility Vacuum. The patent pending Z-fold design offers the performance of an upright and the flexibility and stability of a canister. The patent pending Self-Cleaning Hepa filter cleans itself every 6 seconds. Fine dirt and dust are trapped by the filter as it rotates while the larger particles fall into the dirt cup. As it reaches the cleaning position, a combination of reverse flow and gentle tapping releases the fine dirt and dust from the filter. Dirt and dust fall into the dirt cup. The filter continues to turn and the next section is cleaned. The DigiTouch Control Pad allows for the ease of simply touching the desired setting and having it automatically adjust the On/Off switch, Automatic Carpet Height Settings, Automatic Hard Surface Settings, Gentle brush settings, and diagnostic indicators. The Telescoping Quick Release Wand with Super Stretch Hose gives you 20 feet of cleaning reach for easy stair cleaning, and the hose swivels 360 degrees so it won't kink or topple the vacuum. In addition, the Z comes with a Pet Hair Cleaning Tool, Lifetime LED Headlights, Extra 16" Cleaning Wand and a 14" Floor Brush as well as a 35 foot power cord. The Z 700 also has a 2 Year Warranty and is virtually Maintenance Free. No belts, bulbs, bags, or filters to replace...ever.

"Great vacuum on the cheap" 2009-09-20
By Mark Foshee
This vacuum has numerous features I wish were available on other vacuums:

1) Oversized rear wheels make it easy to do throw rugs, transition from floor to carpet, and just move the machine around. No more bunching up a rug because little wheels couldn't clear the bump.

2) Permanent self, cleaning HEPA filter. Other vacuums expect you to spend $30 to $40 every six months for new filters. Warning: If you have a long haired dog this isn't the vacuum for you. The long hairs can cause problems with the filter (stops it from spinning and that's how it cleans itself -- info from a Hoover service tech). But for the rest of us, it's a great vac (in 5 years of using our first Z700 we didn't have any filter problems with 2 adults and 3 cats, including one long hair, in a big house with lots of carpets).

3) No light bulbs to replace! Six bright, long life LEDs are spaced across the front of the vac.

4) Very long hose makes doing stairs easy and it very well integrated into the vacuum, so you don't have to find a place to store a separate hose.

5) Long low nose fits under furniture very easily.

6) Adjustable for every user. Most vacuums seem to be designed for 5'6" ladies and using them has always resulted in a back ache for this 6' tall fellow. The Z700 allows you to adjust its handle's height so the vacuum fits you! No more back aches from stooping over to vacuum.

One caveat: When the Chinese bought Hoover (BAD!), they ended support for this brilliant vacuum. So you won't be able to get parts. Since it is a $499 vacuum (worth every penny of it), we made a point to buy two so we'll have our own spare parts!

 "Not So Hot Vac" 2009-08-01
By Chay Martin (USA)
Had this vac for over a year now and find it is not so hot for the price. It's been in for repair twice and is about to make a third trip (after a certain amount of time it seems the suction just gives up). My biggest gripe with the thing is that it weighs a ton and is awkward and difficult to maneuver. Wouldn't really tell a friend to buy one (I own a Kenmore that I've had for years that still performs to expectations).

 "Great Vacuum" 2008-07-04
By Nard
I have purchased 4 upright vacuum cleaners in the last 10 years. 3 were bagless. They have mostly ranged from $200-$350.00. 2 were Kenmores, One a Dirt Devil and one a cordless Westinghouse. None of them have done a sufficent job in my home due to my Shiba Inu which sheds periodically. Considering I have spent more on other vacuums and didn't receive any satisfaction, I decided to buy this one at its now reduced price, mainly because most of the reviews(pro and amateur)never actually mentioned a lack of cleaning power as a con. They were generally more superficial conveniences cons like how the cord wraps or the weight.

Furthermore, I would never pay $600 for a vacuum. I paid $169. With all of the negative reviews out there it was a gamble. I will admit that after using this vac once my wife was amazed at how clean I had gotten the floors, Usually after using my other vacs the brush is tangled with dog hair, primarily pushing a growing mound of hairball across the carpet, but never cleaning it. Not the Z.

I was assuming also that this thing would operate like a tank since everyone complained of its heft, I guess these reviewers were 120 lbs or so because I didn't see any more reason to complain about the weight than if you had a Kirby. That's what I used as a kid. Maybe in this day of 9 pound Orecks its a big difference but never was it cumbersome.

Seriously, if your concern is actually cleaning, this vac is excellent.l If you paid $600 and expected more, really, what were you expecting? Its a domestic work appliance. Auto cord rewinds don't impress me, I want a clean carpet. This is the first vac that I have bought that has actually done what was promised and if it clogs, which is common in all vacs, it provides an access point to clear the clog. The dirt cup is pretty small so you will have to empty it more often than others.

All in all though a nice gamble paid off for me. I'm really wondering what some of the other reviewers were expecting.

 "Expensive, trendy, junk" 2007-11-11
By Tiburon (Colorado Springs)
Funny how people will give these thing high reviews and they've only had it for a couple of weeks.

At 6 months, the telescoping handle has broken. (duct tape repair)

The handle assembly has become very loose.

The mechanism that takes it from a canister to a upright malfunctions half the time. (someone else who gave this thing 4 stars said the same thing) Wait another few weeks and the rest of it will start breaking.

For $300 you can buy a MUCH better vac.

Luckily, I got mine a home Depot for $99 on clearance. They had a whole bundle of them for that price and yes they were new. Wonder why the low price? Now I know!

 "I'm a sucker for a good deal--but skeptical" 2007-10-19
By Boomer Sooner
I was browsing Home Depot one day and saw the Z700 stacked in a middle aisle. I was impressed by the high-tech look but it seemed awfully heavy for a bagless vacuum cleaner. I couldn't beat the price for $99 and needed a vac for stairs because I noticed the long stretchable hose. Forget the vacuum-powered stairway brush - none of them work. They all stall out. It is effective for the price though. Like I said, I only use it for stairs. It's too heavy to lug anywhere else. I feel sorry for whoever paid over $400 for their's. The suction isn't that great but it does have neat "bells and whistles". BTW, I also have a Kenmore and self-propelled Hoover that are much better. (The Kenmore is the best!)
